February 12, 2018 6:05 AM

HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Hartford has been named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies® for the 10th time, as designated by the Ethisphere Institute, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices. The Hartford is one of two property-and-casualty insurance companies to receive the designation this year.

“We are honored to be recognized for our consistently high standards of ethics and compliance,” said The Hartford’s Chairman and CEO Christopher Swift. “Receiving this designation 10 times is a testament to the integrity and character of all The Hartford’s employees. Together, we commit to doing the right thing, every day, for our customers, partners, communities and shareholders.”

The Hartford’s culture of integrity and honesty is backed by a strong ethics and compliance program that emphasizes leadership accountability and preventing ethical lapses and compliance issues.

“While the discourse around the world changed profoundly in 2017, a stronger voice emerged,” said Ethisphere’s CEO Timothy Erblich. “Global corporations operating with a common rule of law are now society’s strongest force to improve the human condition. This year we saw companies increasingly finding their voice. The World’s Most Ethical Companies in particular continued to show exemplary leadership. I congratulate everyone at The Hartford for being recognized as one of the World's Most Ethical Companies."

This is the 12th year Ethisphere has recognized organizations that continue to elevate the standards for ethical leadership and corporate behavior. In 2018, 135 honorees are being recognized across 24 countries and 57 industries. Companies are scored in five key categories: ethics and compliance program (35 percent); corporate citizenship and responsibility (20 percent); culture of ethics (20 percent); governance (15 percent); and leadership, innovation and reputation (10 percent).
