Aviat Networks Awarded $3.0 Million Project with USGS

November 15, 2017 9:00 AM

MILPITAS, Calif., Nov. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Aviat Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVNW), the leading expert in microwave networking solutions, today announced a new project with United States Geological Survey (USGS), valued at approximately $3.0 million. This federal government agency will purchase microwave, router and video surveillance hardware, software and services to improve earthquake related communications throughout California. The new system will be used by the Earthquake Science Center (ESC) to transport geophysical and seismographic data as well as security video to/from various sites across the State.

Aviat's hardware and software solutions will be deployed for reliable and secure communications under the most severe emergency situations. USGS will also depend on Aviat for design, installation, and maintenance services for a full turnkey implementation. USGS was previously using National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) Advanced Wireless Spectrum 3 (AWS3) spectrum for these communications. As part of the requirements of the AWS3 auction, USGS needed to release frequencies in the 1755-1780 MHz band which required a system upgrade.

Aviat's radios are approved for all licensed NTIA fixed frequency bands with key certifications such as DOD J/F-12, DISA UC-APL and NIST FIPS 140-2 Level 2. In addition to these capabilities, other factors contributing to this win include: NTIA approved products, high product reliability, turnkey capabilities, and Made-In-America products, services and support.

"Aviat has a strong presence in Federal networks including DOD, DHS, DOE and their supporting agencies," states Michael Pangia, president and CEO, Aviat Networks. "Aviat's prior AWS experience combined with our proven performance in executing complex microwave deployments in California, enabled Aviat to meet the tight timelines involved with this project. The need for secure communications across Federal, state and local networks is increasing and we believe we're well positioned to support customers, such as USGS over the coming years."
