Janney Montgomery Scott Upgrades Grief (GEF) to Buy

June 25, 2008 8:55 AM EDT

Janney Montgomery Scott upgrades Grief (NYSE: GEF) from Neutral to Buy with a fair value of $72.

The firm said, "Greif’s shares traded down well in excess of a choppy market yesterday on no specific news, but it appears that an announcement from Dow Chemical that it is cutting back on some of its chemical production was a contributor to the weakness. The chemicals referenced by Dow are not relevant to Greif in that they are shipped by bulk through pipelines and rail, while Greif’s packaging is used for other Dow-produced chemicals that are still experiencing healthy end-markets. We have been awaiting an entry point into this well managed company with continued strong growth prospects, and believe that yesterday’s sell-off presents the opportunity we have been waiting for."

Greif, Inc. engages in the manufacture and sale of industrial packaging products, and containerboard and corrugated products worldwide.
