Apple (AAPL) and Comcast in Talks to Team Up on Streaming-TV Service

March 23, 2014 9:38 PM EDT
Shares of Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) will be on watch Monday morning amid news late Sunday from the Wall Street Journal that the company may be close to unveiling a revolutionary TV product in partnership with the country's largest cable provider.

According to the Journal, Apple and Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) are in talks to allow an Apple set-top box to stream lives shows and movies and bypass network congestion by using Comcast's network backbone.

Apple's goal is to use the cable partnership to provide a TV service that is seamless and where end users aren't being bothered by buffering or other hiccups.

Apple for years has been looking for a viable TV product. With a Comcast partnership it may have found one. A deal between the two, however, is not final and may not even be close, according to one person familiar with the matter.

Elsewhere, Internet video leader Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX) may find its shares under pressure come Monday. At least investors will be paying close attention to the Apple/Comcast developments.
