American Capital, Ltd. (Nasdaq: ACAS) announced that in the first quarter of 2012 it had made open market purchases of 5.5 million shares of American Capital common stock, or 1.7% of the Company's outstanding shares of common stock as of December 31, 2011. The shares were purchased at an average price of $8.79 per share, totaling $48.1 million.
