Williams-Sonoma, Inc. (NYSE: WSM) 11.6% LOWER; reports total sales for holiday 2011 were $901 million, up 4.2 percent from the same period last year. Same-store sales fell 0.3 percent. The company projects Q4 11 diluted earnings per share to be in the range of $1.10 to $1.15 which is at or marginally below the low end of the previous guidance range of $1.15 to $1.20 due to the promotional environment during the holiday season. The Street sees earnings of $1.19 per share. The Williams-Sonoma Board of Directors has authorized a new $225 million stock repurchase program to be completed in fiscal 2012.
Synutra International, Inc. (Nasdaq: SYUT) 11.6% LOWER; has issued a statement in response to local Chinese media reports of a pair of 4-month old twins in Jiangxi province who became ill with severe intestinal symptoms. One passed away from dehydration on January 7, 2012. The other has recovered following hospitalization. Both children were reported to have been consuming Synutra powdered milk formula products for weeks before the sudden onset of their illnesses.
Rex Energy (Nasdaq: REXX) 10.5% LOWER; continuing to fall as nat gas moves lower. The stock is down about 13 percent so far this week.
