Conceptus (Nasdaq: CPTS) 42% HIGHER; reports Q3 EPS of $0.15, 8 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.07. Revenue for the quarter was $26.6 million, versus the consensus of $25.76 million. Sees Q4 revs of $29.5-$30.5 million, versus the consensus of $29.7 million.

Hartford Financial Services (NYSE: HIG) 41.3% LOWER; reports Q3 loss of $1.40, versus the analyst estimate of ($1.54). Sees FY08 EPS $4.30 to $4.50 versus consensus of $5.25.

OfficeMax Inc. (NYSE: OMX) 40.9% HIGHER; reports preliminary Q3 sales of $2.1 billion, versus the consensus of $2.18 billion. Sees no adverse affect on liquidity and sees $82.5 million charge on Lehman note.

Polypore International (NYSE: PPO) 39.2% LOWER; reports Q3 EPS of $0.20, 6 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.14. Revenue for the quarter was $155.3 million, versus the consensus of $147.76 million.

PC MALL, Inc. (Nasdaq: MALL) 35.2% HIGHER; reports Q3 EPS of $0.18, 3 cents below the analyst estimate of $0.21. Revenue for the quarter was $325.9 million, versus the consensus of $339.38 million. PC Mall announces a $10 million buyback.

Global Industries (Nasdaq: GLBL) 33.1% LOWER; reports Q3 loss of $0.90, versus the analyst estimate of ($0.33). Revenue for the quarter was $218.6 million, versus the consensus of $243.49 million.

PharmaNet Development Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: PDGI) 32.8% HIGHER; reports preliminary Q3 EPS of $0.08, versus the analyst estimate of ($0.03). Revenue for the quarter was $89.2 million, versus the consensus of $89.05 million. Reaffirms its FY08 sales guidance of $358-$366 million and a loss of $0.25-$0.58.

Office Depot (NYSE: ODP) 29.1% HIGHER; after a solid Q3 report yesterday, shares of Office Depot continue higher today, probably on the back of better-than-expected preliminary results out of OfficeMax. The stock is up 43% over the last 2 days.

Symyx Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMMX) 27.2% LOWER; reports Q3 loss of $0.02, 1 cent lower than the analyst estimate of ($0.01). Revenue for the quarter was $38.9 million, versus the consensus of $41.51 million. Sees Q4 sales of $41-$46 million, versus the consensus of $53.42 million, and a loss of $0.09-$0.04, versus the consensus of a $0.02 gain. For FY08, Symyx cuts its outlook for sales to $157-$162 million and its outlook for earnings to a loss of $0.36-$0.31. The Street is currently expecting FY08 sales of $172.50 million and a loss of $0.24.

Avon Products (NYSE: AVP) 24.8% LOWER; reports Q3 EPS of $0.52 with a 9 cent benefit versus the the analyst estimate of $0.50. Revenue for the quarter was $2.64 billion, versus the consensus of $2.6 billion.
