Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTEC) 26.6% LOWER; reports Q4 non-GAAP EPS of $0.01, in-line with the analyst estimate of $0.01. Revenues for the quarter were $20 million, versus the consensus of $21.38 million.
Thornburg Mortgage (NYSE: TMA) 20.6% HIGHER; after starting today's trading session nearly 12% lower, shares of Thornburg have now swung more than 30%, but volume appears to be light.
Fifth Third Bancorp (Nasdaq: FITB) 20.6% LOWER; investors may be responding to the National City announcement today by selling this large regional bank. Goldman Sachs downgraded the stock from Neutral to Sell this morning.
Celestica (NYSE: CLS) 19.7% HIGHER; reports Q3 EPS of $0.27, 5 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.19. Revenues for the quarter were $2.03 billion, versus the consensus of $1.97 billion. Sees Q4 EPS of $0.16-$0.24, versus the consensus of $0.20 and revs of $1.75-$2 billion, versus the Street estimate of $2.07 billion.
Align Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: ALGN) 19.8% HIGHER; announced a restructuring plan to increase efficiencies across the organization and lower the Company's overall cost structure. The restructuring plan includes a total reduction of 111 full time headcount in Santa Clara, California, of which 46 positions will be eliminated between now and January 2009. The remaining positions will be eliminated over the next few quarters as the Company creates a new shared services organization in its existing Costa Rica operation that will consolidate customer care, accounts receivable, credit and collections, and customer event registration organizations.
UltraShort FTSE/Xinhua China 25 ProShares (AMEX: FXP) 19% HIGHER; European stock markets were weaker across the board after data showed that UK's growth was down 0.5% in the third quarter. Germany's DAX fell over 10%, the French CAC40 sank 10% and UK's FTSE 100 slipped nearly 9%. Asian markets were also hit hard, with Japan's Nikkei 225 falling nearly 10% and South Korea's Kospi also falling 10%. Japan's major automotive company Toyota (NYSE: TM) reported a decline in quarterly sales for for the first time in seven years.
National City Corporation (NYSE: NCC) 18.9% LOWER; PNC (NYSE: PNC) to acquire the company in a stock deal worth $2.23
The Timken Company (NYSE: TKR) 18% LOWER; reports Q3 EPS of $1.41, ex-items, versus the analyst estimate of $1.05. Revenues for the quarter were $1.48 billion, versus the consensus of $1.45 billion. Sees Q4 adj-EPS of $0.16-$0.26, versus the consensus of $0.59 and FY08 adj-EPS of $3.35-$3.45, versus the Street estimate of $3.43.
Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS) 15.6% LOWER; said it is working with an investment banking firm to develop a capital raising program for the company. In October's 18 days of trading, shares of LVS have only ended the day in the positive only 3 days. The stock is down more than 80% in October alone.
Western Digital Corp. (NYSE: WDC) 15% HIGHER; reports Q3 EPS of $0.93, 12 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.81. Revenues for the quarter were $2.1 billion, versus the consensus of $2.07 billion.
Hansen Medical, Inc. (Nasdaq: HNSN) 14.6% HIGHER; reports a Q3 loss of $0.48, 5 cents better than the analyst estimate of ($0.53). Revenues for the quarter were $10.9 million, versus the consensus of $8.96 million.
