Unusual 11 Mid-Day Movers 10/20: TMA, MPEL, LNY, ING Higher; VE, HLTH, ELOS, HRL Lower
Thornburg Mortgage (NYSE: TMA) 70.9% HIGHER; after falling about 45% during last week, shares of Thornburg are bouncing today and have already almost taken back of all of the losses from last week.
Melco Crown Entertainment (Nasdaq: MPEL) 29.1% HIGHER; shares of this casino operator are continuing higher today despite no news from the company. MPEL was up more than 15% on Friday. The stock is seeing unusually heavy volume today.
Landry's Restaurants, Inc. (NYSE: LNY) 28.5% HIGHER; today announced that it has entered into an amendment to the merger agreement previously entered into with Fertitta Holdings, Inc., a newly formed holding company, wholly-owned by Tilman J. Fertitta, the Chairman, CEO and President of the Company, whereby Fertitta agreed to acquire all of the outstanding common stock of the Company.
ING Groep NV (NYSE: ING) 23.3% HIGHER; largest Dutch financial firm received a 10 billion Euro cash infusion from the Netherlands.
Veolia Environment (NYSE: VE) 21.5% LOWER; sees '08 operating cash flow from its waste unit to be EUR 4.1-EUR 4.2 billion, which compares to EUR 4.16 billion last year.
WebMD Health Corp. (Nasdaq: WBMD) 21.3% HIGHER; HLTH Corporation (Nasdaq: HLTH) and WebMD announced that, in light of recent turmoil in financial markets, they have terminated the merger agreement between them. The termination was by mutual agreement of the companies and was unanimously approved by the Boards of Directors of both companies and by a special committee of independent directors of WebMD.
Tortoise Energy Capital Corp. (NYSE: TYY) 19.5% HIGHER; today announced that as of the close of business on Oct. 17, 2008, the company was in compliance with all of its coverage covenants for its senior notes and preferred stock. The company had no bank debt outstanding. The company required no waivers from any lender and is not involved in any discussions to modify the terms of any of its agreements. On that date, the company's total assets were approximately $572 million and the company had $68 million of cash and expected cash from completed sales of securities.

Syneron Medical (Nasdaq: ELOS) 11.9% LOWER; sees Q3 EPS between $0.11 and $0.13, versus the analyst estimate of $0.27. Syneron sees revenues for the quarter between $29 million to $30 million, versus the consensus of $36 million.
Hormel Foods Corporation (NYSE: HRL) 10.2% LOWER; cuts its FY08 EPS guidance from $2.22-$2.28 to $2.03-$2.09, versus the Street estimate of $2.25.
Research In Motion (Nasdaq: RIMM) 8.7% LOWER; shares of RIMM are falling today on a Pacific Crest analyst report suggesting that sell through trends for BlackBerry's devices have been disappointing in both North America and Western Europe. Further, the analyst calls sales from Research In Motion's new Pearl Flip "tepid at best".
