Sigma Designs, Inc. (Nasdaq: SIGM) 13% LOWER; reports Q3 EPS of $0.09, ex-items, 10 cents lower than the analyst estimate of $0.19. Revenue for the quarter was $35.5 million, which compares to the estimate of $46.01 million.

Synopsys (NASDAQ: SNPS) 8.4% LOWER; reports Q4 EPS of $0.33, ex-items, 1 cent better than the analyst estimate of $0.32. Revenue for the quarter was $338.3 million, which compares to the estimate of $339.43 million. Sees Q1 adj-EPS of $0.38-$0.40 on sales of $325-$333 million. Collective Brands Inc (NYSE: PSS) 7.2% HIGHER; reports Q3 adjusted EPS of $0.61, versus the analyst estimate of $0.49. Revenue for the quarter was $ 867 million, which compares to the estimate of $847.62 million. Same store sales up 3.1%.

SeaChange International (NASDAQ: SEAC) 5.7% HIGHER; reports Q3 EPS of $0.11, ex-items, 5 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.06. Revenue for the quarter was $53 million, which compares to the estimate of $51.56 million. Sees Q4 adj-EPS of $0.09-$0.13, which compares to the Street estimate of $0.08. Sees FY11 sales of $225-$235 million, versus the consensus of $227.82 million.

Jo-Ann Stores, Inc. (NYSE: JAS) 4.2% LOWER; reports Q3 EPS of $0.90, 1 cent better than the analyst estimate of $0.89. Revenue for the quarter was $509.1 million, which compares to the estimate of $509.10 million. Same store sales rose 4.3%. Reaffirms outlook for FY10 EPS and same store sales.

Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (NASDAQ: VRTX) 2.2% LOWER; today announced that it intends to offer, subject to market and other conditions, 10,000,000 shares of its common stock in an underwritten public offering under an effective shelf registration statement on file with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Vertex intends to grant the underwriters an option to purchase up to an additional 1,500,000 shares of its common stock.

Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) 0.5% HIGHER; CNBC's Charlie Gasparino has reported that BofA will raise capital in order to pay back the $45 billion it owes taxpayers from the TARP.

BioFuel Energy (Nasdaq: BIOF) 35.3% HIGHER; the stock jumped nearly 38% yesterday amid reports that the EPA said that a recent test showed that cars can handle increased ethanol fuel content.

GreenHunter Energy (AMEX: GRH) 35% HIGHER; may be trading higher for similar reasons as BioFuel and other alternative energy, specifically biofuel and ethanol plays. As this stock is often considered a momentous, speculative stock, it often swings sharply up or down as volume gets heavier.

(NASDAQ: OPXA) 21.9% HIGHER; today announced that Jaye Thompson, Ph.D. has been hired to lead the Company's efforts to further the clinical development of Tovaxin, Opexa's flagship therapy for MS. Additionally, Dawn McGuire, M.D., Opexa's expert clinical advisor and member of the Company's Clinical Advisory Board has agreed to further increase her advisory role in the Company and to represent Opexa as its acting Chief Medical Officer.

HyperDynamics (NYSE: HDY) 12.8% LOWER; correcting following several days of upside amid news of an exclusive deal with Repsol.

Borders Group (NYSE: BGP) 10.9% LOWER; since reporting Q3 results on November 24, the stock has fallen everyday, its price dropping by more than 53$.

China BAK Battery, Inc. (NASDAQ: CBAK) 8.8% LOWER; reports Q4 loss of $0.02, 1 cent better than the analyst estimate of ($0.03). Revenue for the quarter was $57.6 million, which compares to the estimate of $54.80 million. The stock was also downgraded at Roth Capital.

Javelin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Amex: JAV) 6.8% LOWER; today announced that it has submitted a New Drug Application to the US FDA for its investigational product candidate, Dyloject(TM) (diclofenac sodium) Injection, for the management of acute moderate-to-severe pain in adults.

  • Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (NYSE: GDX) up 2.35% to $54.94. Gold maintains a high level after breaking through a record high of $1200 yesterday. Investors, losing faith in the Dollar and other currencies, are still trudging towards tangible metals.

  • iShares MSCI Turkey Invest Mkt Index (NYSE: TUR) shares are up 3.93% to $49.44. J.P. Morgan recently upgraded the sector, noting that Turkish exporters may benefit from a European bounce-back. Markets in Turkey were closed at the end of last week to observe a religious holiday, but stocks traded down as fears of Gulf investors exiting the region arose. This week, on eased Dubai fears, many investors are putting their cash to work in Turkey’s banking system, which has recently benefitted from lower interest rates.


LOWER:

  • United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) down 3.65% to $8.71. Natural gas is definitely not a benefactor of Global Warming unless we find some way to power our A/C units with it.

  • United States Oil Fund LP (NYSE: USO) down 2.30% to $38.71. Share are trading lower on crude inventories rising by 2.1 million barrels, almost triple the analyst estimate of 800,000 barrels.

  • iShares MSCI Thailand Invest Mkt Index (NYSE: THD) down 2.68% to $40.63. The Thai government suspended several big construction projects valued at about $12 billion due to environmental concerns. The Bank of Thailand remarked that the suspension of these projects may affect Thailand’s GDP by as much as 0.5% in 2010.
