The Dow Gained 15 Points, Nasdaq Added 7
The Dow gained 14.74 points today to close at 12,136.45, the Nasdaq added 6.69 points to close at 2,412.61, and the S&P 500 gained 4.77 points to close at 1,386.72. Stocks closed slightly higher after yesterday's big sell-off. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke made comments today which indicated a continued pause with respect to interest rates. However, Bernanke was still concerned about the housing decline and rising inflation. Oil added $0.67 to close at $60.99 per barrel.
Volume was light with 2.71 billion shares trading on the NYSE and 2.03 billion trading on the Nasdaq. Advancers topped decliners by a margin of 21:12 on the NYSE but were even at 16:15 on the Nasdaq.
In individual stories, shares of Consulier Engineering (Nasdaq: CSLR) gained 213% with no specific news releases. Donaldson (NYSE: DCI) fell 8.3% after reporting Q1 EPS of $0.43, in-line with estimates.(0.43) Revenues were $446.4 million vs. $441.97 million consensus. DCI expects full year fiscal 2007 EPS to be between $1.72 and $1.82 per share. Current FY07 EPS consensus is $1.76.
Tomorrow, investors will be looking for earnings from Aeropostale (NYSE: ARO), DSW (NYSE: DSW), Synopsys (Nasdaq: SNPS), Tiffany & Co (NYSE: TIF) and TiVo (Nasdaq: TIVO)
Traders will be looking for economic data on GDP Annualized and GDP Price Index (8:30AM EST), New Home Sales (10AM EST), Oil Inventories (10:30AM EST) and Fed Beige Book (2:00PM EST).
