The Dow Gained 14 Points, Nasdaq Dropped 6

The Dow gained 14.47 points today to close at 13,127.85, the Nasdaq dropped 6.59 points to close at 2,559.11 and the S&P 500 fell 1.85 points to close at 1,451.70. Oil rose $0.79 to $77.49 a barrel.

Volume was modest on the NYSE with 2.93 billion shares traded and 1.82 billion shares traded on the Nasdaq. Decliners topped Advancers on the NYSE 20:13, and 19:11 on the Nasdaq.

In individual stories, KMG America Corporation (NYSE: KMA) gained almost 67% after Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) signed a definitive agreement to purchase KMG America Corporation for cash consideration of $6.20 for each outstanding share of KMG. Shares of KMA closed at $3.49 on Friday.

Cardica (Nasdaq: CRDC) fell 15.3% after AG Edwards downgraded the stock to Sell.
