Stocks Crossing 50-Day SMA 08/20: (HPQ) (LUV) (DRYS) Above; (LOW) (MTL) (SD) Below

The following is a list of stocks crossing the 50-day simple moving average (SMA) and are either above or below the metric. The 50-day is considered an indicator of a potential near-term trend formation.

Crossing and above:
  • Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE: HPQ) - up 2.4 percent. Could be positioning ahead of third-quarter results, expected out beforethe market opens on Wednesday. H-P boosted its third-quarter outlook just a few weeks ago.

  • Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) - up 3.7 percent. Higher following news late last Friday from the AP that it was raising fares. The move is lifting the airlines segment higher.

  • DryShips Inc. (Nasdaq: DRYS) - up 3.2 percent. Moving above the 50-day as the stock continues trading in a channel from $2.20 to $2.40. The Baltic Dry Index is lower on the session.

  • Deere & Co. (NYSE: DE) - up 0.7 percent. Moving higher today as Director David Speer bought another 750 shares.
Crossing and below:
  • Lowe's (NYSE: LOW) - down 6.4 percent. MTL) - down 6.5 percent. Lower as peer China Steel reported a slowdown in Q2, halving profit margins to 3.06 percent in the process.

  • SandRidge (NYSE: SD) - down 0.3 percent. Received tepid comments from Canaccord earlier, with the firm maintaining its Hold rating on the stock.
