July 28, 2008 1:21 PM EDT

Spectrum Brands, Inc. (NYSE: SPC) today responded to a patent infringement lawsuit initiated by Energizer Holdings, Inc. and Eveready Battery Co., Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin. Spectrum strongly refutes the claims made by Energizer, which allege that Rayovac's new Rayovac(R) Lithium(R) batteries, which compete with Energizer(R) e2(R) Lithium(R) batteries, infringe two of Energizer's U.S. patents.

Spectrum said it will vigorously defend itself against the complaint.

Spectrum Brands, Inc. engages in the manufacture and marketing of consumer batteries, pet supplies, electric shaving and grooming, electric personal care, and portable lighting products worldwide.
