Pre-Open Movers 8/27: SI International (SINT) Up on Buyout; Solarfun (SOLF) Falls After Results

Cell Genesys, Inc. (Nasdaq: CEGE) 75% LOWER; terminated VITAL-2, the second of two Phase 3 clinical trials of GVAX immunotherapy for prostate cancer, which compares GVAX immunotherapy in combination with Taxotere(R) (docetaxel) to Taxotere plus prednisone in patients with advanced-stage prostate cancer. The Company ended the trial as recommended by its Independent Data Monitoring Committee (IDMC) which, in a routine safety review meeting held this week, observed an imbalance in deaths between the two treatment arms of the study.
NexMed, Inc. (Nasdaq: NEXM) 75% LOWER; announced that based on First Interpretable Results of Phase III clinical studies for NM100060, a topical application of terbinafine formulated with NexACT(R) for the treatment of onychomycosis, the decision has been taken not to submit a New Drug Application with the Food and Drug Administration at this time.
SI International, Inc. (Nasdaq: SINT) 37% HIGHER; Serco Inc., the U.S.-based division of leading international service company Serco Group plc, and SI International, Inc. (Nasdaq: SINT) entered into a definitive merger agreement. Under the agreement, Serco will acquire SI International for $32 per share in cash, or an aggregate purchase price on a fully diluted share basis of approximately $423 million.
Solarfun Power Holdings Co. Ltd. (Nasdaq: SOLF) 10% LOWER; reports Q2 diluted EPS of $0.23, versus the consensus of $0.22. Q2 revenues were $197.1 million, versus the consensus of $182.9 million.
IKON Office Solutions (NYSE: IKN) 9% HIGHER; signed a definitive agreement with Ricoh Company, Ltd., under which Ricoh will acquire IKON for $17.25 per share, or approximately $1.6 billion in cash. IKON Office closed at $15.56 yesterday.
Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: AMLN) 8% LOWER; Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY) and Amylin reveal 4 additional deaths from Byetta
GT Solar International, Inc. (Nasdaq: SOLR) 8% LOWER; reports Q1 EPS of $0.03, versus a loss of $0.04 last year. Revenues for the quarter were $57.1 million, up 272% from last year. Sees Q2 revs of $120-$130 million. Sees Q2 EPS of $0.12-$0.15. Sees FY09 EPS of $0.70-$0.75. Sees FY09 revs of $600-$650 million.
J Crew Group, Inc. (NYSE: JCG) 7% LOWER; reports Q2 EPS of $0.28, 4 cents lower than the analyst estimate of $0.32. Revenues for the quarter were $336.3 million, versus the consensus of $337.86 million. Sees Q3 EPS of $0.28-$0.33, versus the consensus of $0.46. Lowers its FY09 EPS estimate from $1.70-$1.75 to $1.44-$1.54, versus the consensus of $1.71.
Borders Group Inc. (NYSE: BGP) 7% HIGHER; reports a Q2 GAAP loss of $0.19, versus the analyst estimate of ($0.29). Revenues for the quarter were $749.2 million, versus the consensus of $782.89 million.
Hain Celestial Group (Nasdaq: HAIN) 7% HIGHER; reports Q4 EPS of $0.34, 2 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.32. Revenues for the quarter were $278.3 million, versus the consensus of $264.32 million. Sees FY09 EPS of $1.54-$1.61, versus the consensus of $1.60, and revs of $1.2-$1.3 billion, versus the Street estimate of $1.17 billion.
Applied Signal Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: APSG) 7% HIGHER; reports Q2 EPS of $0.15, cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.14. Revenues for the quarter were $49.9 million, versus the consensus of $46.4 million.
Charming Shoppes (Nasdaq: CHRS) 5% LOWER; reported a Q2 loss of $0.03 per share, which may not compare to the consensus of a $0.01 loss. Revenues came in at $648.6 million, versus the consensus of $628.2 million. Charming Shoppes sees a Q3 loss of $0.09-$0.11, versus the consensus of a $0.01 loss. Sees Q3 sales of $560-$570 million, versus the consensus of $563.8 million.
Dycom Industries (NYSE: DY) 4% LOWER; reports Q4 non-GAAP EPS of $0.23, 2 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.21. Revenues for the quarter were $322.1 million, versus the consensus of $319.02 million. Sees Q1 sales in the range of $305-$325 million, versus the consensus of $332 million, and EPS of $0.18-$0.23, versus the Street estimate of $0.24.
Mattel Inc. (NYSE: MAT) 3.6% LOWER; A jury awarded Mattel $100 million in damages in a copyright infringement case involving Bratz. Mattel had asked the panel to award it about $2 billion plus punitive damages.
Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) 2% LOWER; Morgan Stanley cuts estimates
Brocade Communications (Nasdaq: BRCD) 2% LOWER; filed a $750 million mixed securities shelf registration with the SEC on form S-3
Brown Shoe Company, Inc. (NYSE: BWS) 2% LOWER; reports Q2 EPS of $0.05, 1 cent lower than the analyst estimate of $0.06. Revenues for the quarter were $569.2 million, versus the consensus of $588.76 million. Sees Q3 sales of $650-$660 million and EPS of $0.31-$0.41, versus the Street estimates of $685.95 million for sales and $0.69 for EPS. For FY08, revs are expected to be in the range of $2.38-$2.4 billion and EPS of $1.12-$1.29.
Dillard's Inc. (NYSE: DDS) 2% LOWER; reports a Q2 loss of $0.58, ex-items, 4 cents worse than the consensus of a $0.54 loss. Revenue were down 3% to $1.61 billion, versus the consensus of $1.62 billion. Q2 comp sales fell 4%.
