Notable Midday ETF Movers for 12/7: UNG, TAN Higher; SLV, GDX, USO Lower

HIGHER;
  • United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) up 7.5% to $9.29. Duke energy settled an agreement for a price hike in Kentucky. Shortages in China coming to fruition.

  • Claymore/MAC Global Solar Energy (NYSE TAN) is up 3% to $10.05. The ETF is being pumped up by the United National Climate Change Conference due to kick off Monday, December 18, 2009. Talk of solar, wind, biofuel, water, smart-grid, and fuel cell incentives are stoking the flames.
LOWER:
  • iShares Silver Trust (NYSE: SLV) down 1.5% to $7.88. Silver futures are trending with gold as investors look to realize some of their gains.

  • Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (NYSE: GDX) down 0.34% to $50.49. Gold futures are down after investors look to pare gains, oil prices are down, and the dollar is gaining strength.

United States Oil Fund LP (NYSE: USO) down 1.43% to $37.78. Oil futures are trading lower as the dollar strengthens and future demand is still a little sketchy.
