Notable Mergers and Acquisitions of the Day 9/30: CEP, GNW, GE
- Constellation Energy Partners LLC (NYSE: CEP) has retained a financial advisor to assist in a review of the company's strategic alternatives to enhance unitholder value. Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. Securities, Inc. has been engaged to provide independent advice to the management team and the Board of Managers.
The company noted that, at this time, the Board of Managers has not determined to pursue any particular alternative and that it does not intend to disclose developments with respect to this review unless and until the Board of Managers has approved a course of action.
"Given the current market environment and the recent merger announcement by our sponsor, Constellation Energy Group, we believe the assistance of Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. Securities will be helpful in our efforts to conduct a comprehensive review of our strategic options," said Stephen R. Brunner, president and chief executive officer of Constellation Energy Partners. "We will continue to focus on the interests of our company and unitholders."
- Genworth Financial, Inc. (NYSE: GNW) is examining a number of strategic alternatives regarding its U.S. Mortgage Insurance business, including a possible spin-off, to determine the optimal course for Genworth, its customers and shareholders.
Genworth Financial also reaffirmed its sound financial foundation and cash availability to meet liquidity requirements across the company.
- GE Healthcare, a unit of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), today announced it has acquired MicroCal LLC, a provider of innovative instruments for the study of molecular interactions in pharmaceutical, biomedical and life science research. The acquisition of MicroCal will allow GE Healthcare to expand its offering of technologies for the rapidly growing areas of protein science and drug discovery research. Financial terms were not disclosed.
MicroCal develops and manufactures microcalorimeters that provide detailed information on the structure, function and binding properties of a wide range of biomolecules such as proteins, lipids, nucleic acids and antibodies.
