- Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), today announced that, subject to closing conditions, it has reached an agreement to acquire AbeBooks. AbeBooks is an online marketplace for books, with over 110 million primarily used, rare and out-of-print books listed for sale by thousands of independent booksellers from around the world.
The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and is expected to close before the end of the fourth quarter of 2008.
- According to reports from FT.com, Arcelor Mittal (NYSE: MT) is considering a counter bid for Alpha Natural Resources Inc. (NYSE: ANR), which is currently in a deal to be acquired by Cleveland-Cliffs Inc (NYSE: CLF).
The report said Arcelor Mittal is also considering if it should wait on the sidelines to see if the current deal falls apart or buy the combined company.
- CSX Corp. (NYSE: CSX) yesterday announced that 4 of The Children's Investment Group nominees received a larger number of votes than four of CSX's nominees.
