Notable Mergers and Acquisitions of the Day 2/7 (DAL/NWA/CAL/UAUA, PLCE, DFS/BCS)

- The Wall Street Journal is reporting after the close that merger talks between Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) and Northwest Airlines (NYSE: NWA) have picked up steam and a deal could be announced as soon as next week.
The Journal is also reporting that preliminary talks between UAL Corp. (Nasdaq: UAUA) and Continental Airlines Inc. (NYSE: CAL) have grown more serious.
Details of both talks have yet to be worked out and the negotiations could still fall apart.
- The Childrens Place Retail Stores, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCE) holder Dabah wants to make offer for the company. Confident can offer $24 per share. Disclosure in 13D.
- Discover Financial Services (NYSE: DFS) and Barclays Bank PLC (NYSE: BCS) have signed a definitive agreement for Barclays to acquire Discover's Goldfish credit card business based in the United Kingdom.
Under the agreement, Barclays will acquire the card portfolio consisting of 1.7 million Goldfish and affinity card accounts with approximately $4 billion (GBP 2 billion) of receivables; the Goldfish brand; its operating facilities; certain legal entities; and staff.
The aggregate sale price of the business is approximately $70 million (GBP 35 million), payable in cash at closing and subject to a post-closing adjustment.
