Notable Mergers and Acquisitions of the Day (GE, MER, MTCT, NWS)

  • GE Capital, a unit of GE (NYSE: GE) has agreed to purchase most of Chicago-based Merrill Lynch Capital, Merrill Lynch and Co's (NYSE: MER) wholly-owned middle-market commercial finance business.

    Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

  • MTC Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MTCT) signed a definitive merger agreement to be acquired by BAE Systems, Inc. The transaction, which is valued at approximately $450 million, includes the purchase of all the outstanding shares of MTCT for a cash price of $24.00 per share plus the assumption of debt.

    MTC Technologies closed at $17.78 per share on Friday.

  • News Corp (NYSE: NWS) agreed to sell eight FOX affiliated TV stations to Oak Hill Capital Partners for about $1.1 billion.

    News Corp expects the deal to close in the third quarter of 2008.

    After the sale, News Corp will own 27 stations.
