Notable ETF Movers of the Day 10/15: (ITB) (XLV) Higher; (GDX) Lower
Gainers:
iShares Dow Jones US Home Construction ETF (NYSE: ITB) gained 2.4 percent to 19.8. Shares of KB Homes (NYSE: KBH) led the pack, gaining 3.8 percent. Investors noted positive data in the form of September retail sales. While not directly related, consumer are obviously feeling better and some think it is only a matter of time before there is another leg up in housing.
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLV) gained 1.3 percent to 40.8. Shares of big pharma company Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY) gained 4 percent after the company announced positive Phase III drug data for ramucirumab, for treatement of gastric cancer.
Decliners:
Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (NYSE: GDX) declined 0.4 to 51.44. Trading in gold mining stocks has been noticeably choppy recently, as equity prices ebb and flow along with the spot price of gold. Today gold prices fell below $1735, its lowest levels since mid-September. This triggered a selloff in mining stocks.
