Notable ETF Movers of the Day 08/31: (XLF) (EWY) (UNG) Higher; (VXX) (SMH) Lower

- Financial Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLF) up 1.14 percent to $13.36. Financials rising a little today, as Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) is said to seek the sale of its correspondent mortgage business. Initially up 2.2 percent on the day, BofA is now just 0.6 percent better.
- iShares MSCI South Korea Index (NYSE: EWY) up 2.74 percent to $56.67. Asian shares ending higher on hopes for further stimulus in the U.S. The Kospi ended abut 2 percent better on the session.
- United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) up 3.65 percent to $10.21. Nat gas is heading higher as power continues to be restored on the East Coast, increasing the demand for the commodity. Nat gas October contracts are $0.135 to $4.044 per mmBtu on the Comex.
- iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) down 1.54 percent to $38.30. The CBOE VIX is down about 5 percent on the session today, as hopes for more stimulus linger on soft economic data.
- Semiconductor HOLDRs (NYSE: SMH) down 0.15 percent to $29.28. Though not the main influence, the chip sector might be seeing some weakness from LTX-Credence Corp. (Nasdaq: LTXC), which is down about 18 percent on the session following it's fourth-quarter earnings report. Altera Corp. (Nasdaq: ALTR) is leading the ETF lower, down 3.2 percent Wednesday.
