Notable ETF Movers of the Day 07/30: EWZ, GLD, XHB Higher; USO, SMH, TAN Lower
Gainers
- iShares MSCI Brazil Index (NYSE: EWZ) up 1.02% to $70.54. After opening lower, Brazilian shares shaking off GDP data in the U.S. and continuing higher today after their central bank said that it would be curbing their cycle of interest rate hikes.
- SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) up 0.61% to $114.99. Gaining today from sour GDP data. A sagging U.S, dollar, and attractive prices, is having investors make a push for gold today, after GDP data came in short of views. The GDP came in at 2.4%, lower than the 2.5% expected and 3.7% for the prior month. Also comments from St. Louis Fed President James Bullard that quantitative easing may be needed to avoid Japaneses-style deflation is helping the precious metal.
- SPDR S&P Homebuilders (NYSE: XHB) up 0.47% to $15.01. Trading higher today on positive Univ. of Mich. Consumer Sentiment and Chicago PMI indexes. Additionally, Simpson Manufacturing Co., Inc. (NYSE: SSD) is rocketing higher after reporting mixed second quarter results after the market yesterday.

- United States Oil (NYSE: USO) down 0.63% to $34.84. GDP data today came in lighter than expected, slowing investors rush into oil.
- Semiconductor HOLDRs (NYSE: SMH) down 1.09% to $27.34. Seeing weakness from the lower GDP data today. Additionally, though not down terribly today, Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) was accused by the U.S. Dept. of Justice yesterday of fraud relating to government contracts.
- Claymore/MAC Global Solar Energy (NYSE: TAN) down 2.92% to $7.65. Being led lower today by MEMEIC Electronic Materials (NYSE: WFR), as the company reported second quarter results below Street views yesterday, and guided their FY10 sales below consensus expectations.
