Notable ETF Movers of the Day 05/15: (UNG) (UUP) (XRT) Higher; (GLD) (EWY) Lower
Gainers
- United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) up 1.73 percent to $17.62. Natural gas contracts higher as the shift into warn-weather pricing begins. Currently, temps in the Midwest and Northeastern U.S. are ramping up, leading to an increase in demand for cooling purposes. The Sourthern U.S. is still experiencing slightly cooler weather, though that's likely to change within the next few weeks.
June contracts are up $.034 to $2.465 per mmBtu on the Comex.
- PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish (NYSE: UUP) up 0.43 percent to $22.43. The U.S. dollar is showing some strength Tuesday following news out of Greece that it failed to form a government and will have to redo elections. The news is hitting the euro zone and its members, with many fearful of the effects of Greece pulling out of the currency.
- SPDR S&P Retail (NYSE: XRT) up 0.95 percent to $59.76. The segment is being led by Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN), which is up on an upgrade at Credit Suisse as well as Topeka Capital setting a Street-high price target of $400 on the stock...which is 33 percent better than the next highest price target. Amazon is up 2.9 percent on the session.
Retail sales only crept 0.1 percent higher in April, lower than expectations calling for a 0.2 percent gain.
- SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) down 0.08 percent to $151.21. Gold showing some weakness on the stronger dollar Tuesday, which makes contracts more expensive to investors outside the U.S.
- iShares MSCI South Korea Index (NYSE: EWY) down 0.16 percent to $55.40. South Korean shares reacting to news out of Europe. The KOSPI fell 0.77 percent to 1,898.96 Tuesday.
