Notable ETF Movers of the Day 02/16: (VXX) (UNG) (XLF) Higher; (GLD) (EWT) Lower
Gainers
- iPath S&P 500 VIX Short Term Fu (NYSE: VXX) up 0.68 percent to $28.21. Markets a little more volatile from news out of Europe as well as some mixed U.S. economic data. First-time jobless claims came in at 348,000 for January, which was less than a revised 358,000 in December and 365,000 expected on the Street.
- United States Natural Gas Fund (NYSE: UNG) up 3.66 percent to $5.38. The EIA reported nat gas store fell 127 billion cubic feet for the week ended February 10th. Analysts were expecting a more modest decline by 116 to 120 bcf. Nat gas March contracts are up $0.126 to $2.551 per mmBtu.
- SPDR Select Sector Fund - Financial (NYSE: XLF) up 1.29 percent to $14.65. Higher on economic data today. Leading the pack are Bank of America (NYSE: BAC) and Citigroup (NYSE: C), up 3.2 percent and 2 percent, respectively.
- SPDR Gold Trust (NYSE: GLD) down 0.28 percent to $167.64. The risk trade is on today as investors push back into the market. U.S. markets are reacting to lower jobless claims, Philly Fed numbers, and better than expected housing starts. April contracts are $6.1 lower to $1,722.0 per ounce.
- iShares MSCI Taiwan Index Fund (NYSE: EWT) down 0.38 percent to $13.33. Taiwan stocks lower following remarks by Premier Sean Schen of a potential stock investment gains tax. Nothing is implemented, but Chen said talks about the tax were ongoing.
