Notable ETF Movers of the Day 01/29: (XME) (XLE) Higher; (FAA) Lower

Gainers:

SPDR S&P Metals & Mining ETF (NYSE: XME) gained 1.6 percent to 44.6. The sector experienced strength across the board on Tuesday, with specialty metals company Allegheny Technologies Inc. (NYSE: ATI) leading the pack. In earnings, steel companies AK Steel (NYSE: AKS) and United States Steel Corp. (NYSE: X) reported results before the bell, though the stocks' reaction was relatively muted.

Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (NYSE: XLE) gained 1 percent to 77.6. Energy stocks were lifted on Tuesday as the price of crude oil climbed to yearly highs. WTI edged up to $97.75 per barrel and Brent climbed above $114 per barrel. Among related names, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: APC) was a standout, gaining 1.2 percent.

Decliners:

Guggenheim Airline ETF (NYSE: FAA) declined 0.85 percent to 38.4. Weakness in the sector followed a dissappointing earnings report by JetBlue (Nasdaq: JBLU). The company missed Q4 earnings by 2 cents, and shares declined by 2.75 percent. Related stocks followed JBLU down, with notable weakness in United Continental (NYSE: UAL).
