Notable ETF Movers 3/8: ETF Movers: UUP, XLF Up; GDX, XME, UNG Down (GDXJ, AIG, MET)

Notable ETF Movers of the Day :

Gainers
  • PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish (NYSE: UUP) up only 0.04% to $23.64. After opening at $23.54, the ETF is gaining some ground as investors are shifting to the currency as stocks are beginning to slide today.

  • Financial Select Sector SPDR (NYSE: XLF) up 0.20% higher to $15.25. The XLF is hanging in there as positive news that AIG (NYSE: AIG) and MetLife (NYSE: MET) have reached an agreement for AIG's ALICO division. MetLife will acquire the business for $15.5 billion. The sale comes on the heels of a $35.5 billion sale of Asian assets to Prudential.
Receders
  • Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (NYSE: GDX) down 1.21% to $45.87. Shares are trading lower as gold futures are showing some weakness today as Euro concerns are easing. Investors are exiting as risk premium ebbs. Market Vectors Junior Gold Miners ETF (NYSE: GDXJ) is also down 1.28% today to $25.51.

  • SPDR S&P Metals & Mining (NYSE: XME) down 0.83% to $55.87. The ETF started high, but is now trading down as investors may be turning their attention to currencies.

  • United States Natural Gas (NYSE: UNG) down 2.28% to $8.16. Warmer weather forecasts have natural gas futures trading lower as stockpiles are expected to increase.
