Gainers

  • iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (NYSE: VXX) up 2.8% to $27.57. Shares of the CBOE VIX turned upward sharply today after results from the CC came out [see below].

  • PowerShares DB US Dollar Index Bullish (NYSE: UUP) up 0.42% to $23.78. Investors are returning to the currency as confidence in the U.S. recovery is yet again put on amber alert following worse than expected results of the CC.

Receders

  • SPDRs (NYSE: SPY) down 1.27% to $109.75. Indices dropped sharply after the CC came in at about 10 points lower than previous. CC for February was 46, compared to the expectation of 55, and 56.5 prior.

  • SPDR S&P Metals & Mining (NYSE: XME) down 4.1% to $50.06. Shares down as metals are feeling a pinch on a stronger US dollar.

  • Claymore/MAC Global Solar Energy (NYSE: TAN) down 4.24% to $7.90. Compounding an overall down day is First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR) as concerns over their 10-K filing late yesterday and a new 'Sell' rating have driven the stock down 6% to $106.31.
