Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 12/14: CMCSA, AIG, EMS, CAT High; CAPS Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • Comcast Corp. (Nasdaq: CMCSA) high of $22.40. Received an upgrade at Bernstein to Outperform, and started by Nomura at Buy. Shares up over 5% to a fresh 52-week high today.

  • American International Group, Inc. (NYSE: AIG) high of $52.45. Popping today as investors are buying in ahead of the expected dilution upon conversion of the U.S. government's preferred stake as well as new offerings by AIG. Notably, Berkowitz's Fairholme Capital boosted his holding to over 30%, despite the stock hitting new 52-week highs last week as well.

  • Emergency Medical Services Corp. (NYSE: EMS) high of $64.53. Jumping today as their Board confirmed that they will be reveiwing strategic alternatives for the company.

  • Caterpillar, Inc. (NYSE: CAT) high of $92.91. Continuing higher today following a rating initiation from Macquarie at Outperform, with a $115 price target. Might also be seeing strong buying ahead of Joy Global's (Nasdaq: JOYG) earnings report, ahead of the market tomorrow.
52-Week Low:
  • Capstone Therapeutics Corp. (Nasdaq: CAPS) low of $0.45. Reported results today for two Phase 2a's of AZX100 on keloid scarring as well as seven-month interim results of its ongoing AZX100 Phase 2a pilot clinical trial in surgical (trocar site) scarring. Click here for more on that. If you want to skip the release, a drop of 56.7% to the new low should tell you the results. Today's trading is the lowest that the stock has been in nearly two years (February 2009).
