Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 08/25: (MCD) (RLRN) High; (GEN) (BWS) (SIGM) Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • McDonald's Corp. (NYSE: MCD) high of $90.45. McDonald's hit an all-time high early in the session today. No real news is attributed to the move, but as noted yesterday, McDonald's made a nice rebound following a late-July, earl-August sell off. McDonald's is currently about 1.4 percent lower this afternoon.

  • Renaissance Learning Inc. (Nasdaq: RLRN) high of $15.53. Late Wednesday, Renaissance Learning said it received an unsolicited, non-binding proposal from Plato Learning for $15.50 per share in cash. The amount was a 6.8 percent premium to yesterday's closing price of $14.52.
52-Week Low:
  • GenOn Energy, Inc. (NYSE: GEN) low of $2.60. After the market closed yesterday, GenOn reported COO Mark Jacobs is leaving, and CEO Ed Muller will assume the role.

  • Brown Shoe Co., Inc. (NYSE: BWS) low of $6.45. Brown Shoe dropped over 17 percent on the session following second-quarter 2011 results. Brown Shoe reported a loss of 6 cents on revenue of $628.1 million, missing views calling for EPS of 4 cents and revs of $638.2 million. Looking ahead, the company sees fiscal 2011 earnings of 85 to 97 cents per share, on revenue of $2.68 to $2.71 billion. The Street was looking for earnings of $1.16 and revenue of $2.75. Finally, the Company said it will sell its AND 1 unit in a $55 million cash deal.

  • Sigma Designs, Inc. (Nasdaq: SIGM) low of $7.33. After the market closed yesterday, Sigma reported a second-quarter loss of 44 cents on revenue of $46.7 million, missing views calling for a loss of 2 cents and revenue of $52.44 million.
