Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 08/13: (S) (PPHM) (ASTI) High; (SOQ) (TC) Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • Sprint (NYSE: S) high of $5.09. Sprint higher following a BofA/Merrill Lynch upgrade to Buy, as reported earlier. The U.S. carrier is snubbing moves in the sector, which sees many of its peers in negative territory.

  • Peregrine Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: PPHM) high of $2.74. Peregrine Pharma moving higher on continued momentum Monday. Today, the stock is popping above the $2.50 price level with gobs of volume.

  • Ascent Solar Technologies (Nasdaq: ASTI) high of $1.60. Ascent Solar said it launched a charger for the Samsung Galaxy S III smart phone featuring ultra light CIGS technology. Also, Ascent filed its 10-Q late last Friday. Shares moved about 20 percent higher on the session.
52-Week Low:
  • Sonde Resources Corp. (AMEX: SOQ) low of $0.90. Sonde reported Q2 results late last Friday and also commented in the release: "In January 2012, the Company engaged an advisor to identify and evaluate alternatives to finance the Company's remaining North Africa obligations. Information learned during the process has adversely impacted our currently available financing alternatives and may delay the outcome and drilling of the three exploratory wells, which could cost more than $100 million. Despite an extensive effort, Sonde has thus far been unable to obtain financing or other arrangements on acceptable terms for the Joint Oil Block."

  • Thompson Creek Metals (NYSE: TC) low of $2.41. Thompson Creek downgraded at Macquarie from Neutral to Underperform, with the firm moving its price target from $4 down to $2. Thompson Creek also closed the sale of a stake in Mt. Milligan mine.
