Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 04/10: (PCLN) (EXTR) (HD) High; (BBY) (BTU) (AU) Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • Priceline.com (Nasdaq: PCLN) high of $774.96. Priceline moved a little higher early Tuesday following Cowen starting coverage on the company with an Outperform rating,

  • Extreme Networks (Nasdaq: EXTR) high of $4.24. Craig-Hallum started Extreme Networks at Buy with a $7 price target Tuesday.

  • The Home Depot, Inc. (NYSE: HD) high of $$50.86. Home Depot making a slight move higher Tuesday out of the gate before succumbing to overall market pressure. Homebuilders have been on the rise over the last several weeks as economic data pointed to both growth as well as improving housing market conditions.

52-Week Low:
  • Best Buy Co. Inc. (NYSE: BBY) low of $21.47. Ahead of the bell, CEO Brian Dunn said he was resigning from the company, with Director G. Mike Mikan to step in as interim CEO until a replacement is found. Investors initially cheered the move, pushing shares about 3 percent higher, before investors began questioning the next moves for Best Buy.

  • Peabody Energy Corp. (NYSE: BTU) low of $27.12. Peabody Energy as nat gas prices continue lower on lagging demand due to mild weather.

  • AngloGold Ashanti (NYSE: AU) low of $32.44. AngloGold said today that its outlook issued in February "could see downside risk in the light of safety related stoppages which were being experienced at its South African mines."

    The company also stated today, "Safety stoppages continued to negatively impact group production from its South African mines during the first quarter of 2012."

  • Targacept, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRGT) low of $. Targacept announced revised top-line results from its exploratory Phase 2 clinical study of TC-6987 in asthma.

    Following identification of an error in the application of the agreed statistical analysis plan, a reanalysis of the data was undertaken. As shown in the table below, as compared to the initially reported values, the reanalysis revealed a 2 ml decrease in the change in Forced Expiratory Volume (FEV1) from baseline to pre-dosing on day 28, which resulted in TC-6987 no longer achieving the study’s protocol-defined success criteria on that co-primary endpoint.

    Shares moved over 14 percent to the new low.
