Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 01/17: (PFE) (BVSN) (KFT) High; (KGC) (CHK) (CBRX) Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE) high of $22.17. Earlier Tuesday, Medivation (Nasdaq: MDVN) and Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) announced results from the CONCERT trial, which is a Phase 3 trial that evaluated dimebon (latrepirdine) when added to ongoing treatment with donepezil HCL tablets in patients with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease.

    Dimebon did not achieve statistically significant results for either of the two co-primary endpoints, the Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale.

    Pfizer could still be moving higher on overall sentiment today, as well as word late-Friday that Nestle and Danone were said to have submitted bids for Pfizer's baby food unit.

  • BroadVision, Inc. (Nasdaq: BVSN) high of $23.00. BroadVision moving 30.9 percent better on the session following reports that its Clearvale was selected to provide the social business platform for London's Digital Summit.

  • Kraft Foods Inc. (NYSE: KFT) high of $38.53. Kraft moving higher following an updated 2011 outlook. According to the release: "Net revenue for full year 2011 is expected to have grown approximately 10 percent. Organic Net Revenue is expected to increase approximately 6.5 percent, compared to a previous outlook of at least 6 percent, driven by mid-single-digit organic growth in North America and Europe, and double-digit organic growth in Developing Markets. The Street forecasts total sales of $14.85 billion for Q4 and $54.38 billion for the full year.

    Diluted earnings per share are expected to be at least $1.95. Operating EPS, which excludes acquisition-related costs, Integration Program costs, and costs related to the spin-off of the North American Grocery business, is expected to be at least $2.28, including a negative $0.01 impact from currency in the fourth quarter. The previous outlook for Operating EPS was at least $2.27 excluding any potential impact from currency in the fourth quarter. The Street forecasts EPS of $0.57 for Q4 and $2.27 for FY11."
52-Week Low:
  • Kinross Gold Corporation (NYSE: KGC) low of $10.44. Lower following 2011 production results, and 2012 outlook. According to Kinross, "capital expenditures in 2012 are expected to be approximately $1.3 billion related to growth projects, primarily for Tasiast. The 2012 forecast for exploration and business development expenses is approximately $255 million, of which $185 million is forecast for exploration. Capitalized exploration is forecast to be $35 million, for total 2012 forecast exploration expenditures of $220 million."

  • Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE: CHK) low of $20.80. Chesapeake continues lower as nat gas prices continue to fall on warmer-than-usual weather across the Midwest and Eastern U.S. Shares moved an additional 2.9 percent to the new mark Tuesday.

  • Columbia Labs (Nasdaq: CBRX) low of $1.01. Columbia Labs dropped over 58 percent on news that the FDA believes its preterm birth gel is not effective.

  • R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. (NYSE: RRD) low of $12.08. R. R. Donnelley said it expects full-year 2011 free cash flow to be in the range of $650 million to $700 million, an increase from the previous guidance that called for free cash flow of approximately $600 million. Revenue is expected to be $10.6 billion, non-GAAP operating margin is expected to be 6.6 percent to 6.7 percent, non-GAAP effective tax rate is expected to be 23 percent to 24 percent and fully-diluted weighted average share count is expected to be 196 million to 197 million. The Street sees revs of $10.61 billion.

I was fascinated to discover that there's been research on saffron versus Aricept (donepezil). Check it out: http://nutritionfacts.org/videos/saffron-versus-aricept/. (noncommercial, science-based site) According to the findings, saffron works just as well (which isn't all that well, though better than placebo). And without the side effects.
