Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 01/12: NVDA, ZLC, VALE, ACAS High; BGP, CNST Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) high of $22.80. Continuing from yesterday, following the announcement of entering a patent cross-license agreement with Intel (Nasdaq: INTC). Shares are up 28% since the start of 2011, and are hitting highs not seen since mid-2008.

  • Zale Corporation (NYSE: ZLC) high of $5.79. Moving tremendously today, about 44% at last check, following the announcement that 2010 holiday sales came it 8% better to $533.1, with comps jumping 8.5%.

  • Vale S.A. (Nasdaq: VALE) high of $36.59. Shares moving higher today as European debt fears are subsidiing upon a successful debt auction by Portugal. One Brazilian analyst said that Brazil "depends a lot on foreign inflows to help us make jumps to higher levels."

  • American Capital, Ltd. (Nasdaq: ACAS) high of $8.51. Moving higher today as Macquarie upgraded the shares from Neutral to Outperform, with a price target boosted from $9 to $11.
52-Week Low:
  • Borders Group, Inc. (NYSE: BGP) low of $0.78. Sinking even further today as the company made a statement that they will be shuttering a distribution center in Tennessee. The closing will result in 310 layoffs. Shares fell 9.3% to a new 52-week low today.

  • Constar International Inc. (Nasdaq: CNST) low of $0.65. A continuation from yesterday on news that the comany has filed for bankruptcy protection. Shares are down 67.5% since the start of January.
