Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 01/11: NVDA, MBI, PCX, VG High; SVU, TLB Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) high of $21.11. Starting off enough in the green today to produce a new 52-week high. Yesterday, after the market closed, it was reported that Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) and NVIDIA signed a cross-licensing agreement, and Intel was to pay $1.5 billion to NVIDIA in the settlement.

  • MBIA Inc. (NYSE: MBI) high of $14.96. Making a nice midday surge today, as charges that the insurer's restructuring was akin to a "fraudulent conveyance" were dropped.

  • Patriot Coal Corporation (NYSE: PCX) high of $25.92. One of the beneficiaries from the unfortunate flooding in Australia, the world's largest coal producer, as buyers are turning to U.S. companies to fill the void as Austrailia looks to clean up the mess before resuming production. Some are blaming the rains on "La NiƱa," which is a weather phenomenon that brings more rain to the Pacific. Deutsche Bank also initiated coverage on PCX with a Buy, and price target of $28. International Coal Group, Inc. (NYSE: ICO) shares are also up over 5% to a new high of $9.29 today.

  • Vonage Holdings Corporation (NYSE: VG) high of $3.24. Continuing momentum that the shares have sen above the $2.35 price level, which was surpassed on January 5. Shares are up 41% since then.
52-Week Low:
  • SUPERVALU Inc. (NYSE: SVU) low of $7.34. Absolutely dropping after posting third quarter earnings of $0.24 per share, missing views by seven cents. More notably, SVU lowered its FY11 EPS outlook from $1.40 - $1.60 to $1.25 - $1.35. The Street was looking for an EPS of $1.46.

  • The Talbots Inc. (NYSE: TLB) low of $5.97. Announced that Q410 comps were down 7%. Also, TLB lowered their Q410 per share loss estimate from ($0.05) - $0.00 to ($0.15) - ($0.19). The street is looking for a loss of ($0.02). Talbots also lowered their FY11 adjusted EPS estimate from $0.70 - $0.78 to $0.56 - $0.60. Consensus is looking for $0.73.
