Notable 52-Week Highs and Lows of the Day 01/03: (CVX) (KOG) (WMT) High; (TSTC) (SHLD) Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) high of $110.25. Well, as Iran continues to threaten closure of the Strait of Hormuz - the biggest crude oil shipping channel in the world -- Chevron and other energy companies could be poised for decent gains as crude prices continue to rise.

  • Kodiak Oil & Gas Corp. (NYSE: KOG) high of $9.98. Kodiak Oil & Gas moving higher along with Chevron, and other oil and gas exploration companies, as Total (NYSE: TOT) and Sinopec Int'l entered into deals for about $4.5 billion of investments in U.S. shale plays.

  • Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT) high of $61.06. Investors might be trying to get into Wal-mart (NYSE: WMT) ahead of December retail sales numbers, expected out tomorrow and Thursday, which should show a 4.3 percent increase, according to data compiled by Reuters. The number outpaces an already raised 3.8 percent gain for December issued by the National Retail Federation.
52-Week Low:
  • Telestone Technologies Corp. (Nasdaq: TSTC) low of $3.20. Telestone is getting crushed Tuesday, down as much as 23 percent, after it cut guidance for its fourth-quarter ahead of the bell. Telestone now expects revenues for the year ending December 31, 2011 to be 15% to 20% lower than in the 2010 fiscal year, or approximately $105.3 to $111.9 million, versus prior guidance of a 30% increase.   • Sears Holdings Corp. (Nasdaq: SHLD) low of $31.34. Sears, still reeling from its guidance last week, said it hired Ron Boire from Brookstone as it's Chief Marketing Officer. Further, the Company completed the spin-off of Orchard Supply Hardware Stores Corp. over the weekend.
