Notable 52-Week High's and Low's of the Day 09/15: SVNT, ARG, KFT, RVBD High; CHP, FBC, UTA, DYP Low

This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:

  • Savient Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: SVNT) high of $19.95. Soaring over 35% to its new high today, investors are buying into SVNT as the U.S. FDA approved its krystexxa for the treatment of gout. Some see a buyout next.

  • Airgas Inc. (NYSE: ARG) high of $67.63. Shares are higher today as Air Products (NYSE: APD) won all three if their seats on Airgas' Board of Directors. Also, less than 67% of shares voted to amend Air Products by-law.

  • Kraft Foods Inc. (NYSE: KFT) high of $31.56. Investors and traders are loving Kraft outlining their global growth strategy today. Kraft said that they will deliver 5% or more in orgainc growth, with margins in the mid-to-high teens, and EPS growth of 9% - 11%.

  • Riverbed Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq: RVBD) high of $45.20. Been showing some strength YTD, and seems to pop up on earnings. Options guys today noted that the overall call volume today is about four times the average.


52-Week Low:

  • C&D Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: CHP) low of $0.19. After about a week delay in reporting, C&D posted a Q2 adjusted loss of $0.19, missing the analyst estimate of ($0.06). Revenue for the quarter was $83.8 million, compared to the estimate of $91.0 million.

  • Flagstar Bancorp (NYSE: FBC) low of $1.73. The stock was making some crazy moves today, dropping about 18.4% to a new 52-week low. Volume is also about 10x the three-month average. FBCs response to the unusual movement was to reaffirm their outlook for FY10. Reports the company will issue stock.

  • Universal Travel Group (NYSE: UTA) low of $3.25. Could be falling on more speculation over Chinese company reporting standards, as a Business Insider report entitled "FRAUD ON THE NYSE? Chinese Travel Company Universal Travel Group (UTA) Appears to Be Mostly a Fiction". Volume is extremely heavy, at about 13x normal three-month average. Companies like UTA, and Orient Paper Inc. (NYSE: ONP), have come under fire recently for potentially falsifying their filings with the U.S. SEC, while submitting something completely different to their government regulators.

  • Duoyuan Printing, Inc. (NYSE: DYP) low of $2.36. Shares down over 23% at one point as investors continue to sell off following the resignation of the CEO, CFO, and audit committee chair on Monday, as well as the company excusing independent auditor Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. The stock bounced a little yesterday, but only following a 54% selloff on Monday.
