Overall Analyst Rating:

This report is a mid-day check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.

52-Week High:
  • BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. (NYSE: BJ) high of $44.27. Continuing higher after hedge fund Green Equity reported a 9.5% stake in BJ's yesterday. Green Equity also said that it intends to contact the company regarding potential options for enhancing shareholder value including "going private" talks. The company also received two upgrades today, from Goldman Sachs and Jefferies.

  • Dollar Tree, Inc. (Nasdaq: DLTR) high of $43.30. Looks to be breaking above the $42.40 resistance level today. Volume is about average for the stock. May also be seeing some upside from BJ's today.

52-Week Low:
  • Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) low of $26.48. Shares are actually up today, but started lower on overall weakness in the market. The low was caused after the company completed a landline spin-off of Frontier.

  • General Maritime Corp. (NYSE: GMR) low of $5.29. Trending lower after breaking through a $6.00 support level yesterday. Volume today is about twice the three-month average.

  • Level 3 Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: LVLT) low of $0.95. Has been trading lower all week, and today a larger volume spike drove the shares to their currently 52-week low, which may be a bearish signal for the stock.
