Notable 52-Week High's and Low's of the Day 06/21: LVS, AIPC, AAPL, EP High; AFFY, NOK, CYPB, EXEL Low

This report is a mid-day check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today. It is a brief list, and not meant to be a complete listing.

52-Week High:
  • Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE: LVS) high of $27.84. Shares are higher today as the company continues its march upward. Shares are up 64% from $16.62 seen at the start of the year.

  • American Italian Pasta Co. (Nasdaq: AIPC) high of $52.65. Ralcorp Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: RAH) and AIPC today announced that the Boards of Directors of both companies have unanimously approved a definitive merger agreement under which Ralcorp will acquire all of the outstanding shares of AIPC common stock for $53.00 per share in cash, for a total purchase price of approximately $1.2 billion, net of cash acquired.

  • Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) high of $279.01. Shares continuing higher, up 1.5% from their previous high of $275 seen last Friday. It appears that $275 might actually be a light support level today as well.

  • El Paso Corp. (NYSE: EP) high of $13.00. Shares hit the $13 mark today, and are moving a little lower to fill the gap after starting higher from Friday. El Paso Pipeline (NYSE: EPB) also announced a $100 million note offering, for which the proceeds are aimed at acquiring an additional 16% general partner interest from in Southern Natural Gas Co. from El Paso.
52-Week Low:
  • Affymax, Inc. (Nasdaq: AFFY) low of $7.12. New low today as Affymax and Takeda Global Research & Development Center, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited, today announced preliminary top-line results from the Phase 3 clinical program for the investigational drug, Hematide/peginesatide, for the treatment of anemia in chronic renal failure patients. The primary efficacy endpoint, the mean change in hemoglobin (Hb) from baseline, in each of the four Phase 3 studies (EMERALD 1, EMERALD 2, PEARL 1 and PEARL 2) met the statistical criteria for non-inferiority, when Hematide was compared to epoetin and darbepoetin, in correcting and/or maintaining Hb in the target range.

  • Nokia Corporation (NYSE: NOK) low of $8.72. Shares of the company have been hanging between $8.80 and $9.00 since the company lowered their Q2 outlook on June 16, 2010.

  • Cypress Bioscience, Inc. (Nasdaq: CYPB) low of $2.82. Cypress has entered into an exclusive North American license for the development and commercialization of BioLineRx's novel antipsychotic (BL-1020, hereafter, CYP-1020), a potential breakthrough treatment for schizophrenia. Specific terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but the total upfront payment to BioLineRx was $30 million, with total potential clinical and regulatory milestones of up to $160 million through to approval in the United States (the majority of which are related to improvement in cognition), potential commercial milestones of $85 million, and a potential additional $90 million associated with approval for additional indications in the United States or for approval in other countries in North America.

  • Exelixis, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXEL) low of $3.95. Exelixis and Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE: BMY) entered into a global development collaboration for XL184, the clinically most advanced MET inhibitor, in December 2008. Under the agreement, BMS and Exelixis had originally agreed to certain clinical development plans, and Exelixis maintained key rights regarding timing and funding of current and future clinical trials.
