Carrols Restaurant Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: TAST) 30.2% HIGHER; reports preliminary Q1 sales of $201.3 million, versus the consensus of $ million. Sees EPS for the quarter of $0.21-$0.23. The Street is currently looking for sales of $200.67 million and EPS of $0.11

Woodward Governor Company (NASDAQ: WGOV) 23.4% HIGHER; reports Q1 EPS of $0.43, ex-items, 9 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.34. Revenue for the quarter was $334.7 million, versus the consensus of $327.78 million.

CONMED (Nasdaq: CNMD) 21.5% LOWER; reports Q1 earnings of $0.19 per share, below the consensus of $0.24. Revenues came in at $161.4 million, versus the consensus of $173.6 million. CONMED sees Q2 EPS of $0.14-$0.19 below the consensus of $0.28. CONMED sees FY09 EPS of $0.92-$1.02 versus the consensus of $1.13.

Acorda Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: ACOR) 19.8% HIGHER; today announced the resubmission of its New Drug Application for Fampridine-SR to the U.S. FDA. Fampridine-SR is a novel therapy being developed to improve walking ability in people with multiple sclerosis.

Transition Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: TTHI) 19.1% HIGHER; Elan Corporation, plc (NYSE: ELN) and Transition today announced the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued US patent number 7,521,481 on April 21, 2009. The patent is entitled "Methods of Preventing, Treating and Diagnosing Disorders of Protein Aggregation," and generally claims methods for treating Alzheimer's disease comprising administering scyllo-inositol (ELND005). The patent will expire in the year 2025 or later due to any patent term extensions.

RadioShack Corporation (NYSE: RSH) 18.4% HIGHER; reports preliminary Q1 EPS of $0.34, 12 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.22. Revenue for the quarter was $1.002 billion, versus the consensus of $937.01 million.

Candela Corp. (Nasdaq: CLZR) 18.2% HIGHER; reports Q3 loss from continuing operations of $0.04, which includes items and so does not compare to the analyst estimate of ($0.08).

Abiomed, Inc. (NASDAQ: ABMD) 17.1% HIGHER; said it received 510(k) clearance from the FDA for its Impella 5.0 and Impella LD Circulatory Support Devices. This 510(k) clearance designates Impella 5.0 and Impella LD to provide circulatory support for periods of up to six hours.

VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) 16.8% LOWER; reports Q1 EPS of $0.25, 5 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.20. Revenue for the quarter was $470 million, versus the consensus of $474.38 million. JPMorgan and Jefferies also downgraded the stock to Neutral and Undperform, respectively.

Pactiv (NYSE: PTV) 16.7% HIGHER; reports Q1 EPS of $0.69, cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.46. Revenue for the quarter was $766 million, versus the consensus of $732.54 million. Sees Q2 EPS of $0.54-$0.58, versus the Street estimate of $0.51. Raises its Fy09 EPS outlook from $1.80-$2.00 to $2.15-$2.25, versus the consensus of $1.89. Sees sales for the year down 10-12%.

Salix Pharmaceuticals, Ltd. Revenue for the quarter was $80 million, versus the consensus of $74.77 million. Raises its FY09 sales guidance from $345-$350 million to $355-$360 million, versus the consensus of $346.59 million. Non-GAAP EPS excluding intellectual property litigation and acquisition related costs for the year move from $0.02-$0.04 to $0.11-$0.13, versus the Street estimate of $0.03. Separately, NuVasive announced today that it has agreed to purchase Cervitech® Inc.

Clarient, Inc., (Nasdaq: CLRT) 15.1% HIGHER; today announced that it has been granted an exclusive intellectual property license from the Indiana University Research and Technology Corporation for the rights to commercialize the FOXA1 biomarker, which predicts the likelihood of recurrence and long-term, disease-free breast cancer survival.
