Pacific Biosciences (Nasdaq: PACB) 17.8% LOWER; last night announced it cut about 130 jobs from its workforce yesterday, or about 28 percent of the total headcount. The company sees a $5.2 million charge related to the layoffs during the third quarter. The stock was downgraded at Piper Jaffray and JPMorgan.
TranS1 Inc. (Nasdaq: TSON) 16.5% LOWER; today announced that it has priced its public offering of 6,200,000 shares of its common stock at a price to the public of $3.25 per share. TranS1 has granted the underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to 930,000 additional shares of common stock to cover over-allotments, if any. The gross proceeds to TranS1 from the sale of shares, before expenses and any over-allotment exercise, are expected to be $20,150,000.
Coffee Holding Co. (Nasdaq: JVA) 12.1% LOWER; shares have not closed higher since the stock price pushed under the 200-day smooth moving average last week. The stock is down by about 30 percent since Sept. 14th.
Allos Therapeutics (Nasdaq: ALTH) 11% HIGHER; in a Form 8-K filing, the company disclosed Allos Company A boosted an offer for the company from $2 to $2.20 per share, broken up into $1.50 in cash and $0.70 in shares.
Basic Energy Services (NYSE: BAS) 10.5% LOWER; shares have been trending lower recently. The stock sold-off by about 4 percent to close yesterday's session after the price could not hold the 200-day moving average.
Walter Energy, Inc. (NYSE: WLT) 10.4% LOWER; Walter Energy's consolidated operating income is expected to be between $125 million and $145 million for the third quarter of 2011 and between $255 million and $295 million for the fourth quarter. Consolidated net income is expected to be between $63 million and $73 million for the third quarter and between $165 million and $185 million for the fourth quarter of 2011. Earnings per share is expected to be between $1.00 and $1.16 in the third quarter and between $2.63 and $2.95 for the fourth quarter of 2011. The Street sees earnings of $3.22 in Q311, and $3.16 for Q411.
China Sunergy (Nasdaq: CSUN) 10.4% LOWER; giving back of chunk of the gains from over the last week or two. The stock had surged as much as 32 percent since Sept. 12th.
Flamel Tech (Nasdaq: FLML) 9.6% HIGHER; following a 9.8 percent move higher yesterday, the stock could be breaking above a resistance level around $4.50 today. Volume is very heavy.
Atlas Air Worldwide (NASDAQ: AAWW) 9.2% LOWER; SunTrust Robinson Humphrey downgraded the stock from Buy to Neutral.
Patriot Coal (NYSE: PCX) 9.1% LOWER; entire coal sector under pressure following a warning from Walter Energy.
Youku.com (Nasdaq: YOKU) 8.8% LOWER; stock getting killed recently amid ongoing concerns with a number of US-listed China-based companies. Stock down 25 percent since Sept. 14th.
JA Solar (Nasdaq: JASO) 8.5% HIGHER; reversing a late day decline yesterday; the stock closed down about 9 percent. JA Solar shares are down a whopping 41 percent this month alone.
