NEI (Nasdaq: NEI) 81.7% HIGHER; announced today that it has signed a definitive merger agreement with UNICOM Systems, Inc. and a new UNICOM subsidiary under which UNICOM, will acquire NEI for $1.45 per common share in cash.

Galena Biopharma (Nasdaq: GALE) 13.8% HIGHER; continuing a late-day move higher yesterday. The stock closed up 7.5 percent. Shares are over $1.40 today.
Oclaro (Nasdaq: OCLR) 13.4% HIGHER; breaking out after bumping up against the $2.50 since early June. Shares are over $2.75 today, but have not been able to hold above $3.
Opnext (Nasdaq: OPXT) 13.2% HIGHER; it seems a number of stocks in the optical sector are trending higher today.
L&L Energy (Nasdaq: LLEN) 13.1% HIGHER; continuing higher (over the $2 level) following an 11.5 percent rise yesterday amid an MoU to acquire the Lashu Mine in Guizhou.
Eagle Bulk Shipping (Nasdaq: EGLE) 12.5% HIGHER; pushing over resistance at $3 after breaking above the 50- and 200-day simple moving averages just after the open. Volume is very heavy today.
Zalicus Inc. (NASDAQ: ZLCS) 11.8% HIGHER; today announced that it is has successfully completed a Phase 1 single ascending dose (SAD) clinical study with Z944, its novel, oral, T-type calcium channel blocker. The study results indicate that Z944 was generally well-tolerated and a maximum tolerated dose was achieved. Z944 will advance into a Phase 1 multiple ascending dose (MAD) study in the third quarter of 2012. Assuming Z944 successfully completes the MAD study, Z944 could enter Phase 2 clinical development in the first quarter of 2013.
National Bank of Greece (NYSE: NBG) 11.6% HIGHER; shares are up nearly 60 percent since June 12th as things in Greece seem to be cooling down.
J. C. Penney Company, Inc. (NYSE: JCP) 10.3% LOWER; today announced that Michael Francis will be leaving the Company, effective today. Chief Executive Officer Ron Johnson will assume direct responsibility and oversight of the company's marketing and merchandising functions.
