China National Offshore Oil Selects Blue Coat Appliances for Accelerating, Controlling and Securing Web Access
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BCSI), the leader in WAN Application Delivery and Secure Web Gateway, today announced that China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has deployed Blue Coat(R) ProxySG(R) appliances in its headquarters and largest regional office to manage Web usage, accelerate Internet content and applications, reduce bandwidth consumption and protect against malware.
With Blue Coat appliances, CNOOC can change its model for Internet access so that each branch office could potentially connect to the Internet. Rather than backhaul Internet traffic from branch offices to and from its corporate headquarters, CNOOC can provide direct Internet access to branch offices by deploying ProxySG appliances locally to ensure the same level of security, control and acceleration as the primary Internet gateway in the corporate headquarters. CNOOC has started by deploying a ProxySG appliance in its largest regional office. The same ProxySG appliances used in the branch office can also serve as WAN optimization appliances in the future, accelerating remote access to centralized files and applications.
Wang Ruoxun, director of the IT center of CNOOC, says, "As one of China's largest state-owned oil companies, CNOOC faces significant pressure for productivity and efficiency of operations. The Blue Coat solution can balance the Internet access demands of our 51,000 users and solve the problem of how to ensure the operation of critical business applications despite bandwidth limitations. In addition, Blue Coat ProxySG appliances also offer the scalability we need for future business growth. More policies and processes can be added on-demand to the ProxySG appliances at our headquarters and branches."
The Blue Coat appliances provide CNOOC visibility into the company's Internet access and enable the enforcement of appropriate controls according to corporate policy, the type of content or application and the individual using it. Malicious content, such as spyware and viruses, can be stopped. Employee Web surfing can be managed according to acceptable use policies and various Web applications, such as instant messaging (IM) and those using streaming media or peer-to-peer (P2P), can be controlled for bandwidth and acceptability. Acceptable content and applications are accelerated through use of caching and pipelining. In addition, bandwidth consumption can be decreased by as much as 50 percent.
"The selection of Blue Coat appliances by China National Offshore Oil Corporation reflects our proven capabilities for combining Web security and control with acceleration," said Matt Young, vice president, Asia Pacific, Blue Coat Systems. "In addition, we enable companies to shift from centralized Internet access to direct access in branch offices while maintaining consistency of security and policy control."
