Thoratec Corporation (Nasdaq: THOR) 4.4% HIGHER; Oracle Investment Management, Inc., which together with its affiliates is a longtime and significant shareholder of Thoratec, has sent a letter to Thoratec's Board of Directors stating Oracle's belief that Thoratec will be unable to maximize shareholder value as an independent public company and urging the Board to retain an investment bank to conduct an auction to find a suitable acquirer for Thoratec.

Valeant Pharma's (NYSE: VRX) 1% HIGHER; new CFO Howard Schiller purchased 32,500 shares of the company's common stock on Dec. 1st and 2nd at prices ranging from $46.05-$46.26.
Leap Wireless International, Inc. (Nadaq: LEAP) INDICATED HIGHER; has entered into definitive agreements to acquire 12 MHz of 700 MHz A block spectrum in Chicago from Verizon Wireless for $204 million and to sell Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ) excess PCS and AWS spectrum in various markets across the U.S for $188 million.
