This report is an intraday check of some of the more notable stocks that have hit a 52-week high or low so far today.
52-Week High:
- Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL) high of $496.75. Apple making a sharp move higher Thursday, possibly on word that an iPad 3 event will be held the first week of March, as well as some positive analyst comments. For about 45 minutes Thursday morning -- from 10:30 to 11:15am -- it didn't look like Apple was going to stop rising, moving from $485 through $495, though the stock did end up flattening out a little bit towards the afternoon.
- Cheniere Energy, Inc. (AMEX: LNG) high of $14.64. Cheniere is moving along with nat gas prices Thursday, amid lighter than expected draw data for last week as traders anticipate further cold weather moving in for much of the U.S. Cheniere moved 18 percent to the new high.
- Visa (NYSE: V) high of $114.77. Visa moving higher following its first-quarter earnings report Wednesday night. For the quarter, EPS was $1.49 and revs were $2.55 billion, beating views calling for EPS of $1.45 and revs of $2.47 billion. Visa moved nearly 6 percent Thursday to the new mark.
- Nuance Communications (Nasdaq: NUAN) high of $31.15. Nuance is catching a little momentum from Apple, where it plays a big part of the Siri voice control system, ahead of its first-quarter earnings report, which is expected out after the market closes. Shares moved 6.2 percent on the session.
- Diamond Foods (Nasdaq: DMND) low of $21.44. After the marker closed Wednesday, Diamond reported its audit committee thinks 2010, 2011 financials will need to be restated. The company's Chairman and CEO Mendes and CFO Neil have been put on administrative leave. Since the initial release, a number of sources have said P&G (NYSE: PG) will evaluate the next steps in the sale of Pringles. Shares got hit 41.6 percent early to the new low.
- Heckmann Corp. (NYSE: HEK) low of $4.81. Heckmann appeared to get hit with a "fat finger" trade. Around about noon, shares fell 5 percent to the new low, though shares have made their way back to the $5 level. Heckmann is down nearly 30 percent since hitting $6.79 in January.
Imperial Sugar Co. (NASDAQ: IPSU) 63.7% HIGHER; reported Q1 EPS of ($0.29), versus ($0.75) reported last year. Revenue for the quarter came in at $227.68 million, versus $227.39 million reported last year.
Diamond Foods (Nasdaq: DMND) 35.8% LOWER; reports audit committee finds 2010, 2011 financials need to be restated. The company's Chairman and CEO Mendes and CFO Neil have been put on administrative leave. Since the initial release, a number of sources have said P&G (NYSE: PG) will evaluate the next steps in the sale of Pringles.
iRobot Corp. (NASDAQ: IRBT) 32.9% LOWER; reported Q4 EPS of $0.38, $0.06 better than the analyst estimate of $0.32. Revenue for the quarter came in at $130.8 million versus the consensus estimate of $134.08 million. Sees FY2012 EPS of $0.75-$0.85, versus the consensus of $1.45. Sees FY2012 revenue of $465-$485 million, versus the consensus of $529.26 million. Sees Q1 2012 EPS of $-0.08-$0.00, versus the consensus of $0.30. Sees Q1 2012 revenue of $90-$100 million, versus the consensus of $120.63 million.
Trina Solar Limited (NYSE: TSL) 25.7% HIGHER; shares are trading higher today for the second day in a row on heavier volumes. Several sources have recently highlighted a pick up in demand within the Chinese solar market.
Transition Therapeutics (Nasdaq: TTHI) 24.8% HIGHER; after holding the $1.50 level for the last several weeks, shares are continuing to push above that technical today. After pushing through the $1.75 level, the stock is now flirting with $2.
Support.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPRT) 21.9% HIGHER; reported Q4 EPS of ($0.06), $0.03 better than the analyst estimate of ($0.09). Revenue for the quarter came in at $15 million versus the consensus estimate of $13 million.
A123 Systems (NASDAQ: AONE) 21.1% LOWER; Wunderlich Securities downgraded the stock from Hold to Sell, price target lowered from $3.00 to $0.50.
Energy Conversion (Nasdaq: ENER) 18.3% HIGHER; shares are moving higher as demand in Asia is showing signs of a recovery.
Apricus Biosciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: APRI) 18.7% LOWER; has priced an underwritten public offering of 4,938,272 units at a price to the public of $4.05 per unit, for gross offering proceeds of $20.0 million.
Taleo (Nasdaq: TLEO) 17.2% HIGHER; Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) buys Taleo for $46 per share.
Array BioPharma Inc. (NASDAQ: ARRY) 16.6% LOWER; announced today the pricing of an underwritten public offering of 20,000,000 primary shares of its common stock at a public offering price of $2.60 per share.

Gainers
- iPath S&P 500 VIX Short Term (NYSE: VXX) up 3.06 percent to $25.23. The CBOE VIX is up about 2.5 percent as the market prices in the proposed Greek settlement coupled with better than expected jobless claims. Though Greece and the troika agreed to terms, austerity measures proposed -- including government job cuts and lower pensions -- may further hamper a nation that has been struggling for a while.
Otherwise, initial claims fell 15,000 to 358,000, from a revised 373,000 last week.
- United States Natural Gas Fund (NYSE: UNG) up 3.28 percent to $5.36. Nat gas supplies fell 78 billion cubic feet to 2.888 trillion cubic feet last week. The number was below the analyst range of 83 to 88 billion cubic feet.
On the move today, traders might be looking for colder weather to increase demand for at least the last part of the winter. Otherwise, some value-buying might be going on. Nat gas March contracts are up $0.079 to $2.527 per mmBtu on the Comex.
- Guggenheim Solar ETF (NYSE: TAN) up 5.72 percent to $3.68. Solars are ripping today following reports Renewable Energy Corp said demand was shifting to Asia and the U.S. Specifically, the firm said China's government plans to double solar installations this year and set preferential power tariffs designed to encourage movements to cleaner energy sources.
Leading the move is Trina Solar (NYSE: TSL), which is 20 percent-plus higher today.
- iShares FTSE China 25 Index Fun (NYSE: FXI) down 1.19 percent to $39.92. China stocks lower following reports that annual inflation hit 4.5 percent in January, its highest mark in three-months after slowing to 4.1 percent in December.
- SPDR Select Sector Fund - Financial (NYSE: XLF) down 0.47 percent to $14.70. U.S. banks agreed on robosigning settlements today, sending many lower on the session Thursday. Overall, settlements might total as much as $26 billion for Bank of America (NYSE: BAC), Citigroup (NYSE: C), JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM), Ally Financial, and Wells Fargo (NYSE: WFC), the five largest U.S. banks.

Tripadvisor (NASDAQ: TRIP) 16.4% LOWER; reported Q4 EPS of $0.16, vs. the analyst estimate of $0.24. Revenue for the quarter came in at $137.8 million versus the consensus estimate of $133.51 million. The stock was downgraded at Benchmark and Lazard.
Array BioPharma Inc. (NASDAQ: ARRY) 16% LOWER; announced today the pricing of an underwritten public offering of 20,000,000 primary shares of its common stock at a public offering price of $2.60 per share.
Intl Fcstone, Inc. (NASDAQ: INTL) 15% LOWER; reported Q1 EPS of ($0.02), versus $0.22 reported last year. Revenue for the quarter came in at $96.3 million, versus $96.7 million reported last year.
Thoratec Corp (NASDAQ: THOR) 13.5% HIGHER; reported Q4 EPS of $0.38, $0.05 better than the analyst estimate of $0.33. Revenue for the quarter came in at $109.4 million versus the consensus estimate of $107.56 million. Sees FY2012 EPS of $1.58-$1.68, versus the consensus of $1.65. Sees FY2012 revenue of $445-$460 million, versus the consensus of $459.3 million.
Pacer International, Inc. (NASDAQ: PACR) 12.9% LOWER; reported Q4 EPS of $0.07, in-line with the analyst estimate of $0.07. Revenue for the quarter came in at $358 million versus the consensus estimate of $367.24 million. Sees FY2012 EPS of $0.35-$0.41, versus the consensus of $0.38. Sees FY2012 revenue of $1.5-$1.52 billion, versus the consensus of $1.53 billion.
A123 Systems (NASDAQ: AONE) 12.4% LOWER; Wunderlich Securities downgraded the stock from Hold to Sell, price target lowered from $3.00 to $0.50.
Groupon (NASDAQ: GRPN) 11.8% LOWER; reported Q4 EPS of ($0.02), $0.05 worse than the analyst estimate of $0.03. Revenue for the quarter came in at $506.5 million versus the consensus estimate of $475.15 million. Sees Q1 sales of $510-$550 million, which compares to the Street estimate of $500.89 million.
Anacor Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: ANAC) 11.3% LOWER; today announced the sale of 3.25 million shares of its common stock for gross proceeds of $21,450,000 pursuant to an underwriting agreement with Canaccord Genuity acting as the sole bookrunner.
Furniture Brands Int'l (NYSE: FBN) 11.1% LOWER; reported Q4 EPS of ($0.17), $0.03 worse than the analyst estimate of ($0.14). Revenue for the quarter came in at $255.54 million versus the consensus estimate of $271.97 million.
Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: NBIX) 10.9% LOWER; reported Q4 EPS of $0.02, in-line with the analyst estimate of $0.02. Revenue for the quarter came in at $11.1 million versus the consensus estimate of $12.08 million. Sees FY2012 EPS of $-0.21-$-0.14, versus the consensus of $0.02. Sees FY2012 revenue of $40-$45 million, versus the consensus of $51.72 million. The Company expects to have a net cash burn from operations of approximately $40 to $45 million in 2012.
Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM) 10.5% HIGHER; reported Q4 EPS of $0.45, $0.05 better than the analyst estimate of $0.40. Revenue for the quarter came in at $324 million versus the consensus estimate of $311.26 million. Expecting Q1 sales of $305-$313 million and adj-EPS of 36-39 cents. The Street is currently expecting Q1 sales of $304.82 million and EPS of 39 cents.
Aeroflex Holdings (NYSE: ARX) 10% LOWER; reported Q4 EPS of $0.15, $0.02 better than the analyst estimate of $0.13. Revenue for the quarter came in at $171.1 million versus the consensus estimate of $165.18 million. Sees Q3 2012 EPS of $0.14-$0.17, versus the consensus of $0.26. Accuray Inc. (NASDAQ: ARAY) 9.5% HIGHER; reported Q2 EPS of ($0.10), $0.09 better than the analyst estimate of ($0.19). Revenue for the quarter came in at $106.42 million versus the consensus estimate of $100.75 million. Sees FY2012 revenue of $400-$415 million, versus the consensus of $409.72 million.
