Somaxon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: SOMX) 156% HIGHER; has entered into separate settlement arrangements with Mylan Inc. (NYSE: MYL) and its subsidiary, Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Par Pharmaceutical Companies, Inc. and its subsidiary Par Pharmaceutical, Inc. (NYSE: PRX) to resolve pending patent litigation involving SilenorĀ® 3 mg and 6 mg tablets.

Rovi Corporation (Nasdaq: ROVI) 23% LOWER; sees Q2 EPS of $0.35-$0.38, vs $0.57. Revenues $158-$179 million, versus the consensus of $182.6 million.

Sally Beauty Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: SBH) 7.9% LOWER; announced the underwritten public offering of 23,111,527 shares of its common stock held by investment funds associated with Clayton, Dubilier & Rice, LLC. Announced preliminary Q3 adj-EPS of 38 cents on sales of $887 million. The Street was looking for EPS of 37 cents on sales of $900.1 million.

EMC (NYSE: EMC) 6.7% HIGHER; see below for exec change news. EMC sees Q2 consolidated revenues of approximately $5.31 billion, up 10% over Q2 2011, and record Q2 non-GAAP earnings per weighted average diluted share (EPS) of $0.39, up 11% over Q2 2011. The Street was looking for revs of $5.29 billion and EPS of $0.40. EMC continues to expect to achieve its full-year 2012 goals of $22 billion in revenue and non-GAAP EPS of $1.70. The Street sees FY12 revs of $22.1 billion and EPS of $1.73.

VMware (NYSE: VMW) 5.3% HIGHER; announced that Paul Maritz will be succeeded in the post as Chief Executive Officer of VMware, effective September 1, 2012, by Pat Gelsinger, currently president and chief operating officer, EMC. The company offered prelim. Q2 sales of about $1.123 billion and non-GAAP operating margin of about 32 percent. Sees Fy12 sales of $4.54-$4.635 billion and non-GAAP operating margin of 30.25-31.25 percent. The Street was looking for Q2 sales of $1.11 billion and FY12 sales of $4.59 billion.

Horizon Technology Finance Corporation (Nasdaq: HRZN) 4.2% LOWER; today announced that it has commenced a public offering of 1,660,000 shares of its common stock. The Company intends to grant the underwriters for the offering an option to purchase up to an additional 249,000 shares of common stock.

American Capital Agency Corp. (Nasdaq: AGNC) 2.6% LOWER; announced today that it plans to make a public offering of 32,000,000 shares of its common stock. In connection with the offering, the Company intends to grant the underwriters an option for 30 days to purchase up to an additional 4,800,000 shares of common stock.

United Rentals, Inc. (NYSE: URI) 2.6% LOWER; reported Q2 EPS of $0.66, $0.08 better than the analyst estimate of $0.58. Revenue for the quarter came in at $993 million versus the consensus estimate of $1.08 billion.

Ralph Lauren (NYSE: RL) 1.5% LOWER; disclosed the company's Senior VP and CFO, Tracey Travis, announced her resignation from the company, effective July 30th.

CSX Corp. (NYSE: CSX) 1% HIGHER; reported Q2 EPS of $0.49, $0.02 better than the analyst estimate of $0.47. Revenue for the quarter came in at $3.01 billion versus the consensus estimate of $3.05 billion.

Wynn Resorts Ltd (NASDAQ: WYNN) 1% HIGHER; reported Q2 EPS of $1.38, $0.13 worse than the analyst estimate of $1.51. Revenue for the quarter came in at $1.25 billion versus the consensus estimate of $1.34 billion.

Books-A-Million, Inc. (NASDAQ: BAMM) INDICATED SHARPLY LOWER; announced today that the Anderson family has withdrawn the previously announced non-binding proposal made on April 28, 2012, to acquire all of the outstanding publicly-held shares of the common stock of the Company for $3.05 per share.

SS&C Technologies Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: SSNC) INDICATED LOWER; today announced a public offering of its common stock. The size of the offering is 7,000,000 shares of common stock offered by investment funds affiliated with The Carlyle Group.
