Mattress Firm (NASDAQ: MFRM) 14% HIGHER; reported Q4 EPS of $0.56 vs. analyst estimate of $0.19 (and a loss of $0.07 same qtr last year). Revenue for the quarter came in at $188.6 million versus the consensus estimate of $177.21 million. The Company today announced the signing of a purchase agreement for all of the equity interests of Mattress Giant for approximately $47 million in cash, subject to customary purchase-price and certain other adjustments. The Company expects that the transaction, which remains subject to customary closing conditions, will be completed during its fiscal second quarter ending July 31, 2012. The Company expects to fund the purchase price from cash reserves. Sees FY12 EPS of $1.40-$1.48, including costs of 17-19 cents per share, on sales of $1.03-$1.06B.
Owens-Illinois, Inc. (NYSE: OI) 8% HIGHER; announced today that first quarter 2012 results, based on preliminary indications, should exceed prior year first quarter 2011 earnings from continuing operations of $0.50 per share (diluted) by more than 35 percent. The Street was modeling EPS of 50 cents.
OPNET Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: OPNT) 6% LOWER; announced that based on preliminary estimates it expects revenue for the fourth fiscal quarter, ended March 31, 2012, to be in the range of $44.4 to $44.6 million. Therefore, it expects revenue for fiscal 2012 to be in the range of $172.6 to $172.8 million. GAAP diluted net income per common share for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2012 is expected to be between $0.16 and $0.17. Non-GAAP diluted net income per common share for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2012 is expected to be between $0.20 and $0.21. The non-GAAP diluted net income per common share expectation for the fourth quarter excludes approximately $864,000 of expenses associated with stock-based compensation expense, amortization of acquired intangible assets, and the related impact of these adjustments on the provision for income taxes. The Street was looking for revs of $46.99 million and EPS of 26 cents. FY11 revs to be $175.2 million.
Alcoa, Inc. (NYSE: AA) 5.1% HIGHER; reported Q1 EPS of $0.10, $0.14 better than the analyst estimate of ($0.04). Revenue for the quarter came in at $6.01 billion versus the consensus estimate of $5.77 billion.
JDA Software (Nasdaq: JDAS) 5% LOWER; to restate results, recognized some software sales at the time of signing, will reevaluate some contracts.
Applied Micro, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMCC) 5% LOWER; the company currently expects that revenue in the fourth fiscal quarter of 2012 will be approximately 6% lower than the mid-point guidance of $52 million that was provided during the third fiscal quarter 2012 earnings call. The company expects that its non-GAAP earnings per share in the fourth fiscal quarter of 2012 will be in the range of ($0.10) to ($0.12) per share. At this point these numbers are only preliminary estimates as the Company is still finalizing its results for the quarter. (Consensus is a loss of $0.08)
Standard Microsystems Corp (NASDAQ: SMSC) 4.3% HIGHER; reported Q4 EPS of ($0.19), $0.02 worse than the analyst estimate of ($0.17). Revenue for the quarter came in at $89.9 million versus the consensus estimate of $91.09 million. Sees Q1 2013 EPS of $0.29-$0.38, versus the consensus of $0.27. Sees Q1 2013 revenue of $98-$102 million, versus the consensus of $97.96 million.
CSC (NYSE: CSC) 3% LOWER; reports preliminary Q4 adj-EPS of about 19-21 cents, which may not compare to the Street estimate of 97 cents. Sees GAAP sales of about $4.1 billion, right inline with the Street estimate.
QR Energy, LP (NYSE: QRE) 1.5% LOWER; announced today that it has commenced an underwritten public offering of 6,202,263 common units representing limited partner interests in QRE pursuant to a registration statement on Form S-1 previously filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Additionally, QR Energy's sponsor, Quantum Resources Funds, is offering 11,297,737 common units in the offering. The underwriters will be granted a 30-day over-allotment option to purchase up to an additional 2,625,000 common units.
