VIVUS (Nasdaq: VVUS) 5.8% LOWER; The U.S. FDA informed VIVUS of an extended Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) date for its review of the Qnexa New Drug Application (NDA) from April 17 to July 17, 2012. The three-month extension is a standard extension period.
Harmonic (Nasdaq: HLIT) 3.9% LOWER; reports preliminary Q1 EPS of 2-3 cents on sales of $125-$128 million. The company had previously guided sales to $132-$142 million. The Street is looking for Q1 EPS of 9 cents on sales of $136.62 million.
Orexigen (Nasdaq: OREX) 2.2% HIGHER; trading higher amid the Qnexa news.
Arena Pharma (Nasdaq: ARNA) 2% HIGHER; trading higher amid the Qnexa news.
Affymax, Inc. (Nasdaq: AFFY) 1.5% HIGHER; has received a $50 million development milestone payment from Takeda Pharmaceutical Company as part of the companies' exclusive global agreement to develop and commercialize OMONTYS® (peginesatide) Injection. The milestone was triggered by the U.S. FDA approval of OMONTYS on March 27, 2012. This is in addition to the $5 million milestone payment the company received from Takeda that was triggered by the European Medicines Agency acceptance of the Marketing Authorization Application in February.
PPL Corp. (NYSE: PPL) 1.6% LOWER; announces a public offering of 9.9 million shares of common stock.
Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE: CHK) 1.5% HIGHER; today announced three oil and gas asset monetization transactions for total proceeds of approximately $2.6 billion in cash.
