Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) is expected to enter agreements with Samsung and Taiwan Semi (NYSE: TSM) for the manufacture of its 10-nm chips and peer MediaTek will tap an additional foundry to manufacture its higher-end solutions starting next year.
According to Digitimes, the moves come as wafer capacity was tight, while foundry costs were also high in 2014.
Qualcomm had been seeking to establish cooperation ties with United Microelectronics Corporation (NYSE: UMC), Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (NYSE: SMI), Globalfoundries, and Samsung, Digitimes noted.
Shares of Qualcomm are up modestly Friday.
