Mobileye N.V. (MBLY) Active on Tesla Chatter

October 2, 2014 7:31 AM EDT

Mobileye N.V. (NYSE: MBLY) is active early Thursday following news from Tesla Motors (Nasdaq: TSLA).

Late Wednesday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted on Twitter: "About time to unveil the D and something else".

Market watchers might be interpreting that as having something to do with driver assist.

On the "D": There's also speculation (and, what will probably be revealed) that Tesla is planning to debut its dual-motor AWD drive option for the Model S. This comes as the Model X, which will debut in 2015, is expected to come equipped with AWD. Tesla might be doing a little more research on the system by offering it as an option on the Model S first. Given Tesla's commitment to customer care, the company would probably be quick to satiate Model S AWD owners not happy with the performance of the vehicle.

On the "something else": This portion could have something to do with driver assist. Mobileye and Tesla were said to be working on such a system in the past and Musk has hinted that you will be able to enter and exit a freeway without touching the steering wheel by the end of the decade, if not within a year or two. That technology might come to fruition sooner.

Again, this is pure speculation by us.
